THE IRONMOB PROJECT

Redefining what is possible as First Nations people

The IRONMAN triathlon is the hardest one day sporting event any human can do. It consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run. In Australia, we only know of only 12 First Nations people that have currently done an IRONMAN triathlon. TRIMOB is here to change that through our IRONMOB project, we are not only empowering our mob to have the physical capability to physically finish an IRONMAN but the mental strength and confidence to know they can. Using a strengths based approach, that celebrates and showcases First Nations people and our cultures, we will redefine what is possible and inspire and empower more First Nations people to participate in triathlons and know that anything is possible.

WORIMI CAMP (NSW CLUB CHAMPS)

Camp 1 was in Worimi Burray (Forster) for the NSW Triathlon Club Champs. This was the first IRONMOB camp with our athletes taking on the 1km swim, 30km bike & 8km run in the home of triathlon in Australia. The mob smashed it, and for two of our IRONMOBBER’s it was their first ever triathlon.

GIMUY (CAIRNS 70.3 IRONMAN)

At IRONMAN Cairns the mob took on the 70.3 either as individuals or as part of a team. This was a big step up for the mob and a big challenge for them to overcome as we aim to increase their capacity to take on the full IRONMAN. At Cairns we also helped create history with the most ever First Nations people to participate at an IRONMAN event and TRIMOB Board Director, Nadine Hunt qualifying for the Hawaiian IRONMAN.

Gubbi Gubbi (Noosa Triathlon)

Camp 3 the Mob gathered to take on the largest triathlon festival in the southern hemisphere. The Noosa triathlon didn’t disappoint with all the Mob completing the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run. There was also over 15 First Nations people competing at Noosa.

TRIMOB supports our IRONMOB project athletes by creating a team environment. We bring the mob in for various camps as we build their capacity to take on their ultimate goal the IRONMAN triathlon. We effectively take an individual sport and turn it into a team sport, which harnesses the strength of our culture to give greater purpose to each of our athletes. As we lead into 2024 and the goal of competing in the IRONMAN Australia in May, everyone of our athletes have now completed a 70.3 IRONMAN as individuals and are ready to take on their next races with a new found confidence.

If you think you have what it takes, the drive, the commitment and the courage to become a TRIMOB, IRONMOB athlete. Then why don’t you apply to join our next group as they aim to complete the Cairns IRONMAN in June 2025.
