The IRONMOB Program is a 14-month health and wellbeing journey grounded in cultural and social connection, community, and teamwork.
More than just training for a race, IRONMOB powers the Mob to step into their strength, expand their horizons, and take on the challenge of an IRONMAN triathlon. Each year, TRIMOB selects a new IRONMOB team to swim, bike & run this path, with the goal of completing an IRONMAN event in Australia.
Established in early 2023, the program guided six Aboriginal women and men to the finish line of IRONMAN Australia in May 2024.For 2024/2025, TRIMOB is powering eight more members of the Mob on their journey to IRONMAN Cairns in June 2025 - continuing to break the ceiling of what is possible for the Mob.
The IRONMAN triathlon is the hardest one day endurance event is the world. To complete it a person must swim 3.8km, bike 180km & run 42.2km within 17hours.
Australia has a proud IRONMAN history with tens of thousands of athletes have crossed the finish line and multiple IRONMAN World Champions. Yet, before the IRONMOB program, we knew of only twelve First Nations people who had achieved this feat.
THE IRONMOB program is changing that story. In just two years, the program will have doubled the number of First Nations athletes who have completed an IRONMAN—proving that when the Mob is powered, anything is possible.
An IRONMAN is more than a race; it’s a transformation. Running down that final chute is a moment of strength, determination, and resilience—not just for the individual, but for our entire community. When a member of the Mob completes an IRONMAN, they expand the possibilities for our people. Each time the Mob cross a IRONMAN finish line it ignites the fire . in the Mob that if they can do it, I can do it too. UP THE MOB
The IRONMOB program is built on the principles of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework, ensuring a culturally grounded and community-driven approach. Each athlete is supported by nationally recognised and qualified triathlon coaches, who provide tailored weekly training programs designed to gradually and safely build both physical and mental strength.
Beyond training, the Mob are guided by TRIMOB staff, IRONMOB alumni, and TRIMOB members and community, who offer ongoing mentorship and support. A key part of the journey is participating in six training camps, held at existing swim, bike, and run events or dedicated skills and fitness camps. These camps are critical, not only for building capability but also for fostering cultural and social connections with each other and the broader community.
To maintain momentum, the Mob meet fortnightly to reconnect, share experiences, and yarn through challenges and opportunities for growth.Equipping the Mob for SuccessThanks to the generous support of our sponsors, each IRONMOB athlete is provided with: Official TRIMOB team kit, including triathlon suits, cycling kits, running apparel, hats, casual wear, cycling shoes, running shoes, and essential nutrition.Fully funded AusTriathlon membership, which includes comprehensive insurance coverage for the entire program—whether training, competing, or traveling to TRIMOB camps and events.

No, in fact many of our previous and current IRONMOB participants had never done a triathlon before participating in our program. However in ensuring the safety of all our participants, we will assess people's previous and current fitness and select people that we believe are driven, are willing to commit to the program requirements.
